TIPS AND HINTS.
- Plan your shipment ahead. It's a good practice to start making arrangement a month before you ship.
- If you're shipping your household get an estimate volume of your cargo, decide if you will need boxes, barrels, crates, pallets, 20ft or 40ft. container.
- Get a vessel sailing schedule and transit time. It may take a while to get your container to different countries by ocean.
- It's always a good idea to check on the customs regulation in the foreign country to avoid unnecessary problems once your cargo arrives there, for example, some countries do not allow entry of passenger vehicles more than 5 years old, some countries prohibit imports of certain items.
- We can provide you with a short list of customs regulations for some countries, but consulates and embassies are usually a good source for such information. It's the shipper's responsibly to comply with the Customs regulations.
- Before the ocean container is delivered to you for loading you need to check on a few things:
- Contact your city Hall to find out if you're allowed to keep an ocean container on the street. Some cities and residential areas have limitations and rulings on this. Most of the trucking company delivering a container to you, will ask you to provide a liability release letter stating that you will be liable in case the container gets a parking ticket or gets towed away.
- Make sure you have enough space for the ocean container (they're 20 or 40 feet long plus the door opening) to be spotted and that it doesn't block anybody's driveway.
- If you're loading the container yourself you will need to build a ramp or rent one .We suggest you check with your local moving company. If you're using a professional packing company like Samari Global Trade, Inc.we would provide a ramp for you.
- If you are not using a professional packer like Samari Global Trade, Inc.to load your container-make sure you use plenty of cushioning and packing materials, you do not want your belongings to shift back and forth in the container. Use shrink-wrap and other water proof materials to keep your cargo from getting wet.
- If you're shipping any items that have been in contact with soil (garden tools, ATV's, etc.) or animals (saddles, stables tools) make sure you clean them with warm water before loading in container. Some countries are particularly sensitive about those items.
- Once your container is picked up from your place and delivered to the port of export half of your troubles are behind. At this time you would need to provide us with information required to issue ocean shipping documents:
- An itemized list of the cargo loaded in the container.
- If you're shipping a vehicle make sure to provide us with the original customs requires title validation for every vehicle leaving the country.
- You need to provide a letter from lien holder authorizing the exportation on the original and /or a Bill of Sale.
- Your address and contact numbers at destination.
Upon arrival of your container to the port of country of destination you need to arrange for customs clearance and delivery. Most of the times our service is considered completed once the ocean vessel arrives at the port of destination.
We gave agency agreements with hundreds of companies in practically any country in the world to help you with destinations services.
You will be noted a few days before the arrival of your container, that's why it's important to provide us with the contact information before you leave the US. You can decide to use your own means to handle the container through the service of your agents. You need to remember that there will be charges for terminal. Container handling, customs clearance, documentations and delivery.
